Molslinjen’s battery-powered ferry is now in operation, equipped with the most durable and efficient battery system on the market
Echandia, the leading swedish provider of battery systems for maritime electrification, is happy to announce the successful delivery of its battery system to Molslinjen’s new electric ferry, Nerthus.
Nerthus, the first of two new electric ferries commissioned by Molslinjen, arrived in Kalundborg earlier this week after a nearly three-week voyage from Cemre Shipyard in Turkey. The vessel began operations on June 16, serving the high-traffic summer route between Ballen on Samsø and Kalundborg.
Onboard is a 3.1 MWh lithium-titanate oxide (LTO) battery system developed and delivered by Echandia. Known for exceptional safety, long lifespan, and high charge capability, the system is designed for rigorous daily ferry operation. With an expected service life exceeding 12 years, Echandia’s LTO technology enables a smaller installed capacity, reduces operational risk, and improves both cost-efficiency and system reliability compared to other battery systems.
Nerthus will now contribute valuable capacity to the Samsø–Kalundborg line, supporting regional mobility and reducing emissions during the peak summer season.
